Background |
|
The Office of Information and Communication is the skeleton remains of the former Department of Information and Communication Services of the Wingti/Chan Government of 1992. It was reduced to an Office status in 1995 and since then it has been known under different names through the transition until recently when the role of the Office was recognized by the previous Government. And this was further reinforced by the current government, when it recently decided to create the Ministry of State Enterprises and Information. The Government has recently upgraded the Office to a department status. Thus the new department is called the Department of State Enterprises and Information. The government's decision is contained in the NEC Decision No. 292/2003 dated 17th December. Implementation of the NEC Decision 292/2003 is slow but indication by the Minister is that once funding for personnel emolument is secured, approval will be sought from the Department of Personnel Management to fill in the relevant positions in the new structure. Resource constraints has been the major hindrance for the Office to effectively perform its functional responsibilities as expected of it by the government. |
