Policy Division

This Division plays an important part in coordinating seminars and workshops to review the National Policy on Information and Communications that was endorsed by Parliament in 1994, the Privatisation policy and other policies administered by the Minister for State Enterprises and Information.
The initial NIC Policy was established by the old Department of Information and Communications in 1993. The NPIC review is one of the activities of the Division.

Seminars and workshops were held to gauge the public's views to make it a better policy encompassing on all the aspects of communications, information, internet and other applications.

The current Somare government has fully supported this Office and its stance among other leading agencies, and raised the Office Status to a Department. With extra staff to be recruited after the structure is finalized may give some relief in at least attending to long outstanding task of reviewing the NPIC - 1994.

The Division is also looking at developing an Information and Communication Technology Policy to enhance government's use of computer and internet as a tool for nation building.

Liaison with Independent Public Business Corporation is another most important role for the Policy Division.
